Public Hearing | October 29, 2026 at 6:00 PM | 4657 Culver Rd
Q: What has led to the decision to dissolve the district?
A: This decision was made due to the lack of volunteers. Four years ago, the Board of Fire Commissioners entered into a 24/7 mutual aid agreement with the Point Pleasant Fire District. During this time, Point Pleasant has assisted us with fire and EMS (emergency medical service) protection while we attempted to recruit more volunteers. Despite our best efforts with recruitment, we were unsuccessful.
Q. Was the decision to dissolve the district due to financial concerns?
A. No. The Sea Breeze Board of Fire Commissioners has taken great pride in making financially responsible decisions with the well-being of our residents as our primary focus. The dissolution plan posted on our website www.seabreezefire.org shows our current finances in full transparency.
Q: What will change when the Point Pleasant Fire District takes responsibility for the Sea Breeze Fire District?
A: As of November 1, 2026, the Point Pleasant Fire District will expand to include the geographic area that is now known as the Sea Breeze Fire District. Point Pleasant has been providing coverage on all fire and rescue calls since October 2022 and medical calls since July 2026 in conjunction with the volunteers of Sea Breeze. As of November 1, 2026, Point Pleasant will take full responsibility for all fire, rescue, and medical responses.
Q. What happened to the ambulance?
A. As of July 1, 2026, the Sea Breeze Fire District discontinued its basic life support ambulance and ceased to provide hospital transport for patients. Irondequoit Ambulance provides basic and advanced life support care and transport to the Sea Breeze community. Prior to ceasing our ambulance operations, Irondequoit Ambulance was already proving basic and advanced life support services to our region, including when a volunteer crew from Sea Breeze Fire District was unable to respond.
Q. What will medical response look like in the future for Sea Breeze?
A. Point Pleasant Fire District has numerous New York State certified EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians) on their volunteer roster, as well as part-time support staff. These individuals will act as first responders on medical emergencies when appropriate, along with Irondequoit Ambulance.
Q. What will happen with the firehouse located at 4657 Culver Road?
A. The property and all buildings are owned by the Sea Breeze Volunteer Fire Association, Inc. NOT the fire district. The membership of the Association will retain ownership of the property and buildings on the property as they have for decades. The Fire District and the Association are two separate and distinct entities
Q. What will happen to community events such as the holiday parade, turkey raffle, chicken BBQs, and other events?
A. These events are sponsored and hosted by the Sea Breeze Volunteer Fire Association, Inc. NOT the fire district. Therefore, we expect that the Association will continue to plan and host these events.
Q. How will this affect fire protection tax?
A. The fire protection tax rate for the Sea Breeze Fire District and the Point Pleasant Fire District are currently very similar for the 2026 tax year. Little change is expected in that tax rate for 2027 under the protection of the Point Pleasant Fire District, with potential for a slight decrease in tax expenses.
Q. Does Point Pleasant have the resources to provide adequate fire rescue and emergency medical services to the residents of Sea Breeze?
A. Point Pleasant has been supporting the Sea Breeze Fire District for some time. Residents and businesses can be proud of the Point Pleasant members as they continue to serve our communities with dedication, commitment, and tradition, while honoring the proud history and service of generations of Sea Breeze firefighters.
